BlackSkullz09 September 4, 2010 at 9:24 pm

@Some of them do, but there are some made with Rice milk and soy milk. But you can also buy carob chips in replacement

iLikeCookie88 September 4, 2010 at 9:26 pm

@dollylama2 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour (see note)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
1⁄4 cup unrefined sugar
1⁄4 teaspoon sea salt
1⁄3 cup pure maple syrup
1⁄4 teaspoon blackstrap molasses
1 – 1 1⁄2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1⁄4 cup canola oil (a little generous)
1⁄3 cup non-dairy chocolate chips

It was on their website ;)

It would be nice if you would add the measurements somewhere, or did I miss something?

@GitaDharma I am not following what these orgs have to say, good that they recommend fortified, just avoid the sickly SOY crap altogether. As for my opinion on the Vegancult diet, it is a poor choice for a developing infant or anyone for that matter. Do you know that a infant develops 90% of their CNS in the first 5 years? Myelation of the PNS and CNS requires a lot of Cholesterol. Hopefully a Vegancultinfant would be able to internally produce a reasonable amount to stave of retardation.

GitaDharma September 4, 2010 at 11:49 pm

@iLikeCookie88 Actually, some dark chocolate has milk-fat in it and some does not. I always read the ingredient list on the package to be sure.

GitaDharma September 5, 2010 at 12:36 am

@tickyul You are knocking down a straw man that you have set up. Both the ADA and the AAP recommend FORTIFIED soy formulas for non breast feeding infants. Didn’t you bother to read what was posted before responding? So which is more likely: 1. You are in error. or 2. Both the American Dietetic Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics endorse a diet which is harmful to infants and children because (as you say) “these guys do not want to step on any toes”?

ythenamezezima September 5, 2010 at 12:53 am

@windguitar7 You can get ones with soy milk and stuff.

windguitar7 September 5, 2010 at 1:26 am

@GitaDharma Well, if they are spewing crap that goes against good nutritional science I will point it out. Man has a need for many nutrients that are lacking in a Vegancult diet. I do not expect you to believe this. Yep, I am sure you believe that an infant can get enough B12 from seaweed, enough epa/dha from the conversion of Ala. I could go on but it most likely would fall on deaf eyes.

tickyul September 5, 2010 at 3:21 am

@GitaDharma Much easier for a infant to get complete nutrition on a omnivorous diet. The needs of an infant for easily available nutrition rules out a Vegan diet which has too much bulk and too little fat/cholesterol/calories which are needed for development.

birgasio September 5, 2010 at 3:27 am

@akmalhakimvlog
So now you are on a wrong way. Milk way leads you to Breast Cancer or Prostate Cancer, Osteoporosis, Diabetes, Kidney Stones and other dangerous deceases when you get older.

birgasio September 5, 2010 at 3:59 am

Wrong point of you to cookies overall. Who puts salt to biscuits? The salt is added to industrial cookies to eat more. Another thing, if you use baking soda, why you still add baking powder sins they both do the same? As for vegan salt is just another unhealthy mineral.

GitaDharma September 5, 2010 at 4:44 am

@tickyul Basically you just dismissed the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) with “Haha”…

o.k. then …

AlannaGabby September 5, 2010 at 5:22 am

@cheesecake2468 Carob Chips

tickyul September 5, 2010 at 5:50 am

@GitaDharma Haha, these guys do not want to step on any toes, there words do not convince me. Infants have a huge need for easily utilized nutrients, on top of the list is cholesterol, these are lacking in VEGANCULT DIETS. Cholesterol is one of the main nutrients utilized in development of the CNS and PNS. Vegan diets are lacking in many areas, even for a adult, let alone a developing child. Try typing in the search term “failure to thrive”"infants”"vegan”, it may open your eyes…..maybe not?

bobbyforce1 September 5, 2010 at 6:39 am

you people make me sick… and what kind of a name is dreena?

GitaDharma September 5, 2010 at 7:34 am

continued: “… Time and attention are necessary to make certain young children, vegetarian or not, get all the nutrients they need for normal growth and development. For the first four to six months, all babies do best with breast milk. Use iron-fortified formula (soy for vegans) if breast feeding is decreased or stopped. Cow’s milk, soymilk, rice milk and homemade formulas are not appropriate for babies during the first year …” – the ADA and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)

GitaDharma September 5, 2010 at 7:45 am

@tickyul If an infant does not seem to be thriving on ANY kind of diet – a medical professional should be consulted – period. Here is a quote from eatright(.)org : “The American Dietetic Association and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) agree: Well-planned vegetarian and vegan eating patterns are healthy for infants and toddlers. …

GitaDharma September 5, 2010 at 8:40 am

@tickyul re: “I cannot really believe that a professional dietician who really knows his stuff would not see the obvious shortcomings of the Vegancult diet.”

The professional organization of registered dietitians in the United States and Canada has a website at eatright(.)org, you can search the term “vegan” yourself.

tickyul September 5, 2010 at 9:00 am

@GitaDharma For me the Yummiosity factor goes way down if there is no meat in the equation. I am sure I could find some Vegancult food yummy, but I eat mainly for good nutrition and macronutrient profile, Vegan eating falls short on both of these. Why don’t you go read some of the horror stories about “infants”"vegan”"failure to thrive” on Google.com, it will really open your eyes.

tickyul September 5, 2010 at 9:55 am

@GitaDharma Uh…..ok, what the hell is that supposed to mean. I cannot really believe that a professional dietician who really knows his stuff would not see the obvious shortcomings of the Vegancult diet. And, yeah I have seen pics of the Vegan bodybuilders, most look scrawny compared to omnivorous bodybuilders, they are eating lower quality protein so that is expected.
